The Victorian Greens’ hope that next weekend’s Victorian state election would deliver up to four lower house seats to the Greens, and potentially the balance of power, certainly look to have been dashed by the recent Liberal party decision to preference them last. Liberal preferences were crucial at the recent federal election, so the focus now seems (in media mumblings) to be on how obedient Liberal voters are. But even if they don’t pick up more seats, the Greens are still likely to attract a significant proportion of Victorians’ votes and will continue to influence the Victorian upper house.
