About the Course

Combine imagination with logic, take advantage of emerging technologies, and add value to our culture and economy, through Communication Design or Industrial Design.

Graduate with the Bachelor of Communication Design and you'll have sophisticated skills in visual communication, multimedia, interactivity and motion graphics, because we know industry requires innovative, adaptable designers who can design for the platform that best meets its needs.

Graduate with the Bachelor of Industrial Design and you'll be equipped to develop effective, attractive and marketable products, systems and services, from initial concept to final prototype, and to make designs that can be put into production.

Start of expanded content

Central to Design at Monash are the discipline-specific design studios in Communication or Industrial Design. In studio you will investigate ideas and experiment with processes particular to your discipline of choice. You will put your knowledge and ideas into practice, solving problems, creating and making.

The wide range of elective units and interdisciplinary studios offered will challenge you to think outside the box, as you collaborate with peers and mentors from across our unique mix of Fine Art, Design and Architecture programs. The opportunity to study a double degree will allow you to graduate with a complementary qualification, adding to your options.

You can also enrich your learning experience at the Monash University Prato Centre in Tuscany. Located in an 18th-century palazzo just 20 kilometres northwest of Florence, this immersive study experience offers access to some of the best art galleries, museums and design work in the world.

The links between design, society and the environment will be illuminated as you research contemporary issues. Industry case studies will assist you to understand strategy in the design process, learn the practical business requirements of commercial design studios and acquire the negotiation, teamwork, communication and project management skills required for your future design projects.
